Military pharmacopoeias at the turn of the 19th century

Abstract

The development of the pharmacopoeia, as a separate kind of medical book addressed to pharmacists, as well as the creation of a separate health service related to land and sea forces led to the creation of a new type of brief publications on medicinal products at first addressed to military physicians, and later also military pharmacists. On the one hand, these were collections of basic prescriptions, and on the other – uniformizations of the general pharmacy market due to their use when placing wholesale orders by the army. In these books, for the first time, national languages along with Latin were also widely introduced. This was mainly the case in France, England, Poland and Russia.
